Our Mission

National Smooth Dancers supports Social Ballroom Dance in California, the United States of America, and the world.

We, a non-profit, volunteer organization, began in Los Angeles in 1937 "for the purpose of creating greater interest in finer ballroom dancing and to establish friendliness and good will among smooth dancers.". Our San Fernando Valley chapter was established in 1961. There are eight (8) chapters across California, and we travel often to see each other and have great fun at chapter coronations and dances.

We elect our Queens from our participating members to be our Social Representative to the world.. She and her escorts travel to other Chapter coronations for a year to celebrate and continue our connection.

Smooth Dancing is our term for fine ballroom dancing (or partner dancing).. We enjoy Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, Quickstep, Viennese Waltz, Rumba, Cha-cha, Samba, Swing, Mambo - played in both American and International tempos. We also do many of the more recent popular partner dances, like Hustle, Nightclub Two-Step, Salsa, Argentine Tango, and Lindy.
